Holding Baby Get a grip. On baby, that is. Never held an infant before? Try the
football hold. Baby lies across your forearm, your hand holding his head, your
wrist supporting his neck. Or position his head over your left shoulder, left
arm to his bottom, right hand supporting his back (or burping him). Or try
the-two-armed baby-to-your-chest hold. Or the two-armed rocking-baby motion. Practice on a doll if you must. But get the hang of holding baby. It's
one of life's great joys.
