HEALTHY DADS

Today ‘s dads are more concerned about their health than ever before. But, statistics are still showing us that men are living an average of seven years less than women. This is very alarming indeed! What can we fellas do about this I hear you cry? You need to get smart and take an honest look at your body and the state of your general health. All sounds a bit daunting I know but with a sensible attitude and a new positive outlook it is amazing what you can achieve. First warning, “let’s go slow “. It is wise to make changes over a period of time.

Have a long overdue check up with your local doctor. Don’t put it off because it is your best starting point to making changes to your life. Preventitive health care will prolong your life as well as improve the quality of your life. Remember you are taking control of your life here so listen to your doctor and your body.

Don’t stress out. I mean it stress is a killer. You need to relax and to listen to your body and the warning signals that it is sending to you. Here are a few pointers to start you on your path of the new and improved (not to mention healthier) you.

  • v     Chill out.

  • v     Stop smoking

  • v     Drink heaps of the old H2O

  • v     Spend more time with the kids

  • v     Take a nice long walk

  • v     Meditate (you will sleep better)

  • v     Organise time for something that is just yours

  • v     Catch some rays

  • v     Go out for dinner with friends

  • v     Laugh (it really is the best medicine)

O.K. maybe the meditating one is a bit too much, at the moment, but you could try relaxing a bit more. You will find that you will sleep better if you relax or take a walk at night. Remember that we would all like to have our dads and partners around for a long time, so let’s try and change those statistics.
